Dean Brooks is a Canadian. He holds a B.A.Sc. in Engineering Physics and has worked as a technical writer explaining complex subjects to busy people for three decades. In the late 1990s he discovered a number of simple mathematical curves, already recognized in different fields, that could be applied to a vast range and diversity of phenomena, and he set out to find a unifying explanation for why they worked. The result was a new view of basic probability, developed and explored in his 2019 book, The Decline Effect: The Hidden Probability Law Controlling Markets, Politics, Culture, Religion, Epidemics, and War—and based on that, a radically new way of looking at the world.
