Jerry Kirkpatrick is professor emeritus of international business and marketing at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona). He is author of four books: In Defense of Advertising; Montessori, Dewey, and Capitalism; Independent Judgment and Introspection; and Applying Principles. Inspired in high school to think about fundamental ideas, Kirkpatrick studied philosophy as an undergraduate before pursuing his advanced degrees. He also worked in business for over seven years in both New York City and Los Angeles. He now writes a monthly blog essay, the first ten years of which (2007-16) were collected and published in Applying Principles.
