Iran’s Nuclear Ambitions Must Be Stopped!

Israel has done a good job of pulverizing the arms and legs of the monster of the Middle East. First, Hamas, then Hezbollah, and, most recently, the Houthies. Now it is time, past time, to head for the head.

What is the monster? Iran, of course. And what is its “head?” Its attempt to create a nuclear bomb. Were this horrid occurrence ever to come to pass, it would completely obliterate the status quo. No longer would the IDF, with pretty much full impunity, be free to deal with these vassal terrorist organizations.

It is all well and good to deal with the dragon’s claws. But…the job is not yet done.

No, the head must go before it is too late. According to a famous quote: “Where the head goes, the body follows.” It is all well and good to deal with the dragon’s claws. But as long as the head remains intact, the job is not yet done.

Happily, there is precedent for this sort of thing. On June 7, 1981, Israel put paid to the nuclear ambitions of Iraq. This initiative was named Operation Opera. It consisted of an airstrike conducted by the Israeli Air Force which pulverized an unfinished Iraqi nuclear reactor located near Baghdad. I even have a suggested name for the follow up: Operation Fat Lady. There is no reason whatsoever that the IDF should follow up with equal treatment for this new threat on the horizon.

Of course, the nattering nabobs of negativism will have a fit. This will lead to a “wider war,” they will whine. Well, if so, a wider war is vastly to be preferred to the threatened end of the only civilized democratic state in that part of the world. The Biden-Harris Administration has been undermining Israeli efforts to defend itself for lo these many months, putting forth that fear of a vaster conflagration. It should be ignored now and in the future, even more so than in the recent past.

A wider war is vastly to be preferred to the threatened end of the only civilized democratic state in that part of the world.

Then there is the claim that Iranian territory is impregnable. It would be impossible to deter Iran from going nuclear in any case, so why even try. The world must instead grin and bear the prospect of this nuclear armed Clerical State. No. This is solely an empirical matter. It is not an issue of pure logic. The only way to determine if it is true or not is to try it out. And then try again and again until it is clear whether or not Iran is invulnerable to the Israeli Air Force.

One may, however, cast doubt on this thesis. If it is so impossible to attack this vicious nation, how is it that on July 31, 2024, Israel was able to assassinate Ismail Haniyeh while under the protection of this so-called superpower? If the IDF can so accurately pinpoint one such person, surely the Iranian nuclear capacity cannot be beyond the swift sword of the Israeli Air Force.

Maybe, instead of the Israeli military taking on this vital task, it should be the job of the United States. After all, a nuclear armed Iran is a threat not only in the Middle East, but also to the entire world, North America included. To posit any such act is to laugh. Certainly, no such occurrence could ever conceivably take place under Biden-Harris. Rather, they would do everything in their power to ensure that no one else tried to do this either. No, if Israel wants to rid it and the entire world of this scourge, then that nation will have to take on this responsibility itself.

A nuclear-armed Iran doesn’t even bear thinking about. It is the nightmare of all decent folk. In retrospect, it might have been better for Israel to have dealt with this possibility rather than have played around with, that’s not quite the right phrase, with Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthies. In any case, it is not a matter of either/or. The IDF must do both: deal with the hands and feet as well as the head of this atrocious apparatus that threatens its very existence.

A nuclear-armed Iran…is the nightmare of all decent folk.

The Biden-Harris Administration opposes this initiative since it might well lead to “escalation.” No, the real escalation would be if ever this horror scenario came to pass. Then, presumably, Israel would be the second nation in all of history to utilize nuclear weapons. That would be real escalation, to be avoided if at all possible. One way to do so, the best way to do so, perhaps the only way to do so, would be to make it impossible for Iran to ever be nuclear armed.
